An Interview with Artsi Ifrach, the Founder of Masonartc

Throughout the life of Maisonartc, what has been the principal aspect that has set Maisonartc and its creations apart from fashion houses?

The aim is not to be a part of any fashion houses but to emphasize individuality, creative DNA that focuses on culture, one of a kind pieces, and telling a story through garments as well as to be able to be timeless and valuable. Our separation comes from not working in the system, fast fashion, trends or any temporary phase. We are here to stay, to grow and to inspire others.

Do you understand Maisonartc as an independent entity creating under its own influences or a part of a larger discussion in fashion?

I think we are already an independent entity creating under our own influence. We create discussions on fashion while creating curriculum of creativity, growth and precise projects that allow us to be visible in the big scale of the industry worldwide.

The concept of this magazine’s issue is the maverick. The maverick by definition resists popular thoughts or trends, always staying true to themself. What direction can you give to other mavericks or creators who aspire to be bold and not trend followers?

Thank you for the compliment of being a maverick, we don’t take it lightly. I think the beginning of Maisonartc until today was being true to ourselves and not trying to be liked or to be loved by the industry but to be appreciated, recognized and individual. The best advice I can give to any designer in the industry, if you wanna be somebody else, somebody else is already you.

Maisonartc has practiced environmentally conscious fashion for years. Has the decision to be a sustainable label been an easy journey?

It was not our aim to be sustainable at first until today, it was our aim to emphasize artisanal skills and quality that’s long gone from the industry such as pure materials, handmade embroidery, quality fabric and pieces that can stay forever, it just so happens that this is sustainability in its true form. The challenge is that technology is much faster in production in that kind of scale which means it’s almost impossible to be sustainable 100% but we really think that Maisonartc is a very good example of how to combine culture, fashion, sustainability, individuality and responsibility for a better planet without greenwashing anything.

Who is Maisonartc for? When you design your pieces, who are you imagining will wear your work?

My interests are always the same and every piece explores through another one. Our current interest is to continue to grow and know our size by creating beautiful photography and garments under a responsible fashion house.

What are the stories that you aspire to tell through your collections, if you want to tell a story through your work at all?

Every piece in our collection tells a story. Every piece comes from somewhere else and every piece has someone behind it that took time and love to make it, through our pieces we are telling a story that each one of it is a chapter in the book we are writing.

What are some themes or ideas we will see in your next collection?

We only do pieces , we don’t function by collection, we are exploring more photography right now, next is one of a kind furniture and many other things that we are excited about.
